Handcrafted Shades of Green Raku focal Kumihimo Necklace

£50.00

A lovely Kumihimo braided necklace in shades of green and silver with the focal being made up of 5 stunning Raku beads.

Western-style raku has been inspired by a traditional Japanese firing method who’s name literally translates as ‘happiness in the accident’. It usually involves removing the pottery beads from the kiln while at bright red heat and placing it into containers with combustible materials. As the materials ignite they create colours and shapes in the glaze, each bead is totally original and can never be exactly replicated

The necklace is 17.5” (45cm) excluding clasp with a focal of section of 3.75” (9.5cm). It has been finished using a TierraCast® Bright rhodium plated artisan clasp.

I have made this necklace using the ancient method of Japanese braiding called Kumihimo which translates as “gathered threads”. Dating from around 550 AD, Kumihimo was used to make the cords for lacing the Samurai warriors and their horses armour by interlacing strands. Today these same methods are being used with the addition of beads to create uniquely striking jewellery.

It will be posted gift wrapped in an Organza Bag.
