Everything I make is based on original designs and is inspired by the history and stories of the women who made and wore these pieces through this challenging period in women’s fashion.
My passion lies in uncovering the stories woven into the fashions of the day, exploring how they were created and finding out about the lives of the women who wore them.
Techniques handed down from my grandparents, old sewing patterns, an exquisite button collection belonging to my grandmother and some hilarious knitting books on a shelf in the sitting room for as long as I can remember. These, along with time spent sewing with my godmother, a couture seamstress who worked for Catherine Walker, a royal favourite, have all helped shape my journey and love of sewing.
These influences, woven into every aspect of what I do, are complemented by a formal training in fashion design and construction.With nearly 20 years experience in the costume departments of the BBC and a host of independent companies, I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible individuals both on and off screen.
But at the heart of it all are William and Tilda, my daughter and her faithful, slightly shabby bear.
