Vendor Biography

Hi, I’m Becky! I design and create textiles inspired by 1940s wartime Britain, all from my home studio just a short walk from Ilkley Moor in West Yorkshire. I’m passionate about drawing on original designs and patterns from the era, recreating items that embody the ‘make do and mend’ spirit. Every piece I make is crafted to honour the resourcefulness and history of those times.

I trained in fashion design, and after college, I spent nearly 20 years working behind the scenes in costume for film and TV, where I developed the unique skill set I now bring to my own work. My background in costume really influences my approach, allowing me to focus on each detail with care.

I feel lucky to be based in an area with such rich textile heritage—though there are fewer mills than there once were, some still remain, weaving the most beautiful cloth. I use this locally woven fabric in my work, primarily end rolls and offcuts from Yorkshire mills, and I craft my range carefully to keep waste to a minimum.

Beyond the craftsmanship itself, my work is about storytelling. Each piece is a little window into the lives of the women who originally made and wore these items, honouring their resilience and spirit while promoting sustainable practices today.
