About Me

Hello! I’m Debbie and I make jewellery, which I adore doing.

I started with a beading class at least 12 years ago, progressed to silversmithing and then taught myself wirework, which I found fascinating! Finding it harder and harder to stop making in order to go to work, I eventually left my job in magazine publishing to go full time with jewellery. I later spent several years jointly co-ordinating a makers group in Cambridge, and we held various craft fairs and pop-ups, including a three-day Christmas Fair that became really popular with Cambridge shoppers.

Unfortunately, after almost a decade of using wire I developed a certain amount of RSI from the physically demanding wire-wrapping methods (with a contribution from the huge amount of keyboard work I did when magazine editing for so many years). So a couple of years ago I started to explore polymer clay as a medium for jewellery, because I knew it would involve so much less pressure on my hands and wrists.

Polymer clay is a material that allows you to do so much that it can be hard to narrow down to what you actually want or have the ability to do, and for a while I struggled with what direction to take. After much learning and experimentation, I’ve settled on methods that allow me to take my love of pattern drawing and colour and translate them into jewellery designs that feel as natural to do as a doodle.

My techniques now have something in common with pottery and ceramic decoration, which makes me happy because I grew up in the home of British pottery, Stoke-On-Trent. At least a couple of generations of my family spent their whole working lives ‘in the pot banks’, as we called then in Stoke. My grandad was a pottery labourer, my Nan was a china flower maker, and my Mum was a lithographer whose job saw her working for some of the biggest names in china, including Wedgwood, Aynsley and Portmeirion.

What I like is decorative, eye-catching jewellery that makes a strong contribution to your look and enhances your outfits. I like detail to draw the eye and express the artistic side of the wearer, and I love colour.

I want my work to be affordable, but I certainly don’t want it to be disposable, so I make it carefully, thinking about longevity. I use Sterling silver wire, chain and other findings, rather than cheap base metal findings that won’t last and can create allergic reactions. I don’t use open jump rings for connections, because they can come open too easily. Instead, I embed my handmade Sterling findings and connectors into the clay for extra security.

I don’t currently have Google or Facebook reviews for you to look at, but here are a few extracts from some of the 900+ reviews (majority 5-star) I received at my previous shop on another platform:
