I’m Ruth, the designer and handcrafter behind the business, and I’m blessed to live in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.
My jewellery making journey began way back in 2006, when on a whim I studied creative craft, jewellery design and specifically silversmithing techniques at the Yorkshire Craft Centre. Wham. Bang. My love of creating jewellery was born. In 2009 I left my job in the financial sector and concentrated on developing my jewellery making skills. I made jewellery for my family and friends, and sold at art and craft fairs, keeping some pieces for myself – because every designer keeps pieces they make, don’t they? Life then got in the way and I had to shelve any plans I had to develop my hobby into a business. Fast forward to 2022, and with life more settled, I decided the time was right to pick up those jewellery tools once more and develop my craft into a small business, my ultimate goal being to have a better work life balance. Why, after all this time? That’s easy, I love jewellery – I love to wear jewellery, I love to design and make jewellery, but above all I get such a buzz from seeing people wear something I have lovingly created.
Creating beautiful jewellery from my garden studio, I only work with quality materials. Each piece is created using sterling silver sheet, wire or grain, and even the scrap silver I have left over which I recycle. Jewellery is tactile and I just love a textured finish, from hammering to reticulation and anything in between. I use semi-precious gemstones and crystal beads in some designs to add a flash of colour. Every piece is individually handcrafted using traditional silversmithing techniques. I am registered with the Sheffield Assay Office and my pieces are hallmarked, carrying my unique makers mark, in line with UK hallmarking requirements. Ruth Smith Jewellery is suitable for any occasion. If you are looking for that perfect gift for a friend, loved one, or simply looking to treat yourself – and who doesn’t need treating – please take time to browse my shop.
I hope you enjoy wearing a piece (or two) of Ruth Smith Jewellery as much as I love handcrafting them.
Thank you for looking and supporting my small UK business.
