My name is Midge and I am a creative textile designer working with natural dyes and historically based Blackwork embroidery techniques, as well as hand dyed threads and quirky, modern cross stitch designs. I also sew complimentary items such as craft project bags and organisers.
I also work with small scale wool producers (many are rare breed small flocks) to produce Pure wool baby soft shoes/ booties that are crocheted and have beautifully soft fleece inners and sheepskin soles. My range of ‘Peedie Naturals’ follows the important ethos of Natural – Sustainable – Traceable.
A little more about me:
I live and create in the rural Glenkens region of Galloway, within Scotland’s first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve – internationally recognised as a world class environment for people and nature.
I started my freelance textile design business in August 2020. I sell my products online, as well at local creative art venues and visitor centres. I also host my craft and design stall at local markets/ fairs within the Dumfries & Galloway region of South West Scotland and at large scale yarn festivals throughout the UK.
I am a Proud Supporter of the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere, whose three goals are CONSERVATION (promoting the preservation of wildlife, habitats, and landscape), LEARNING (supporting a better understanding of nature and global issues), and DEVELOPMENT (fostering a sustainable economy and society) here in southwest Scotland. Where possible I use naturally foraged and locally sourced dye products to create colours that reflect my wonderful natural environment. I create stitched designs that reflect historical techniques and also revive them into modern, quirky designs. I share my knowledge and skills with local craft groups and at local schools aiming to promote and retain heritage craft skills for future generations.
