I have always loved sewing! It is a great feeling to take a piece of fabric and turn it into something that can be used around the house or worn.
My love of sewing first started when my Nan showed me how to cross-stitch as a young girl. After that, I studied textiles at school and got my first sewing machine when I was around 14 years old.
Before opening my Etsy shop I mainly made items for friends and family. In fact, it was a friend who encouraged me to set up this shop on Etsy and I’m so glad I did. Having my Etsy shop has allowed me to have flexibility around my children’s needs. It means I can take them to school and pick them up or attend school for events like sports day.
My Etsy shop started with Christmas reusable fabric gift bags. These were very popular so I expanded the range to include gift bags for birthdays, Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day. Since then my range of products has expanded to include reusable cotton pads, reusable breast pads, sandwich wraps and snack bags. I now also have fabric bookmarks and scrunchies which I started making to reduce waste fabric left over from the gift bags. I try to reduce fabric waste by using it wherever possible. This led to a cotton pad range that is made just from leftover fabric and the really small leftover pieces are used to fill my eco sponges.
I love to make reusable alternatives for single-use items, helping you to save money, reduce single-use plastic and reduce waste going to landfill. Switching to reusable products is a great way to make small changes to become more sustainable. Not only that but my reusable products also make great gifts if you are looking for something a bit different from the norm.
What does the future look like for In Stitches by Tracey? Well, I am currently looking into more sustainable packaging and new products. I am now also stocking a few of my products in a local garden centre and will be looking into expanding this.
