Welcome to my earring shop on The British Craft House – so exciting to be joining all these lovely British makers.
This jewellery is created at my home studio in The New Forest, Hampshire, where I am inspired by my lovely garden and “assisted” by our two cats!
My background over the past 15 years is in silversmithing, using recycled silver and incorporating other metals and semi-precious stones. I love to make contemporary and unusual earrings in particular, and to experiment with new techniques and materials.
Recently I have been using wire with textile techniques, inspired by Arline Fisch’s Textile Techniques in Metal, as well as New Wire Crochet by Yael Falk amongst others, resulting in my own unique designs and style. I have also incorporated some ideas gleaned from studying lacemaking.
I love the resulting earrings in wire crochet, using sterling silver combined with coloured enamelled copper wire. Every pair is completely handcrafted by me, individual and unique. The wire creates contemporary, lightweight, fun earrings in a wonderful range of colours. It also allows for more sculptural and dramatic three-dimensional shapes, and can be combined with silver accents and semi-precious gemstones.
I am also exploring the world of silver filigree, an ancient craft with artisans from many different cultures creating some really wondrous artefacts. I am indebted to Filipa Oliveira, author of Contemporary Filigree Jewellery, for her teaching and encouragement. I am currently making some delicate filigree earrings and loving the process. I hope you will love them too!!
