I can divide my art journey into 3 parts. My love for art started in my childhood and I took an ‘O’ level in Art in the 70s, the final piece being pointillism. I worked in a newsagent in London at the age of 14, on a Saturday and my job was to take care of the art section. I remember sitting on a stool most of the day, doodling on a massive wad of brown paper that was meant for wrapping sales. I didn’t last long in that job! I wanted to be a window dresser when I left school, but I was told would have to go to art college so, as I wanted to buy clothes and live a little, I decided not to go down that route. Big mistake!
Part 1.
Part 2. Started when I went to work at a college. They offered a free course to staff and as I worked part-time, I started a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design. Every Friday, for 2 years, I had a whale of a time. The tutors were fantastic. The students were all around my age and so supportive. I learned a lot and really developed during that time.
After passing the Foundation Diploma with a distinction I went on to the next stage and decided that the HNC I wanted to take was in fine art. Most of the class did the same so…more support and encouragement there. Art took up more time and the little ones needing chauffeuring here there and everywhere so I gave up work at the college, found something with less hours, hooked up with a couple of arty mums from school and we got ourselves a studio on an old pig farm in Wiltshire.
Passed HNC – went on to gain an HND in Fine Art.
Tried to make a living from art doing craft shows and still trying to do things with college friends but life took over and working hours and divorce took their toll so I gave up.
I remarried and have a very supportive husband who nagged me rotten ‘be creative’ again but found I was scared of a blank canvas and of failure. I don’t like to produce something that I’m not 100% happy with. I’m sure this is how all artists feel and in fact most people feel about everything! After speaking with friends and watching endless YouTube videos I thought I’d have a go at fused glass. I started with a microwave kiln and made pendants, moved on to a ‘big girl kiln’ and then a bigger one! I expanded my repertoire and have learnt so much over the years.
So, that’s it! I’m still on Part 3 of my journey and totally addicted. I have produced hundreds of pieces over the last couple of years which I would like to share with the world. Hence, this website was created by my wonderful hubster, Pete! Thank you for nagging me, Pete!
Please have a flick through and drop me a line if you’re interested in getting more information on anything you see. I would love to hear your comments!
If you would like me to produce a bespoke piece of art to your colour and size requirements, I would be happy to discuss, with no obligation.
