Hi, my name is Alison, I live and work on the border between Pendle and the Yorkshire Dales NP and I am the creator of Brackenley Felts. Welcome to my shop!
I have loved to make things for as long as I can remember. I think there is something very special about creating an end product from scratch, something beautiful you can touch and hold in your hand. As a child I learnt to sew, knit and paint but my introduction to wool felting happened much more recently and completely by accident. It was whilst I was at a local market shopping for buttons that I spotted a small kit to make a felted penguin.
I bought the kit and I made the penguin. I stabbed my fingers with the needle umpteen times and decided needle felting penguins was not for me.
Fortunately, my interest was piqued enough for me to look into other types of wool felting. Since then, I’ve taught myself the traditional craft of wet felting and the more modern method of 2D dry felting with the finest merino, corriedale and shetland wool and barbed needles – thankfully, I no longer stab my fingers!
I now love the process of blending and layering the wool. Teasing and locking the fibres into place with the special needles and seeing the picture transform and come to life.
My framed wool paintings come in various styles and sizes and if you are looking for a small gift, I make bookmarks too.
