Sunset Red 12.5cm Gold Dichtoic Fused Glass Bowl Perfectly Imperfect

£20.00

A gorgeous red fused glass bowl which I’ve fused in my little kiln.

The bowl is made from some beautiful sunset red glass which has lighter streaks within it. It is decorated all over with little squares of vivid golden dichroic glass and the entire surface of the bowl, though smooth and shiny after firing, has the effect of being crazed and within the cracks I have infilled with rainbow frit. I think it gives a stunning effect and it Was absolutely deliberate  😊

The bowl is 12.5cm in diameter and stands 3 cm high. It is exceedingly shiny and tactile and not just a glass dish but a piece of fused glass art.

I hope you like what I have made. You can use it as a trinket or maybe a sweetie dish and it will make a lovely decorative piece to keep for your home or to gift.

Made with and by Joy to be given with love.

The bowl is all ready to post. Postage is charged as Royal Mail 1st class small package.

Please see Details below for more information.

The bowl measures 12.5 cm in diameter.
It is red and gold, quite strikingly coloured and decorated and I have deliberately made it to appear perfectly imperfect.
I’ve used this technique before on a coaster and had forgotten how effective it is. I cut a perfect circle from the beautiful stlighly streaky red glass. I then laid the circle in a padded envelope and hit it with a hammer. So satisfying, I really cannot tell you and I do wish I had taken a video to show you (next time  😊)
I then carefully place the ‘broken’ circle onto a base circle of  clear glass and infill any cracks and gaps with a selection of handmade glass frit in rainbow colours.
I finished the decoration with a generous scatter of golden dichroic glass all over the top surface.
The making of the frit is also a great stress relieving activity as it involves filling a metal pipe with tiny bits of glass and then crushing them with another metal pipe. Makes a lovely noise too., no idea what the neighbours think I am doing
😊.

Made from Bullseye glass, handcut, shaped, layered and decorated with a unique design of precious (aka expensive) Dichroic glass.
It is all then twice times fired in my kiln, first to full fuse all the glass together, second to slump it over a little mould into a shallow dish shape.

I make no guarantee of symetry for my bowls. I put the glass into the kiln and the kiln and the glass do their own thing with the lid firmly shut for about 12 hours so I have no idea what they get up to together while I sleep.

Dichroic (pronounced “dye-crow-ick”) glass, literally means “two colored.” It is derived from the Greek words “di” for two, and “chroma” for color. It was thus named because of its fantastic multicolour reflective properties. It appears to have more than one color at the same time, especially when viewed with different lighting.

My kiln is only small so I make only one-off pieces, no mass production is possible.
Each piece of fused glass I make is unique and very special.

My Shipping Policy

I will always do my very best to post out same or next day and I post Royal Mail first class large letter or Tracked 24 Small package. I can generally post every day except Sundays and bank holidays.
I post from my local post-office which is very reliable and it is very rare for my packages to go missing. They are very clearly labelled and also have my return address on the outside. I copy / paste the address you supply to make sure I don’t accidentally change it and the only change I do make is to auto change post codes to Upper Case where necessary.

My glass is always very securely packaged to try allow for posties playing football with them at the sorting office so they are well padded out inside and I use tape round the outside, where appropriate, to provide extra bouncability. I recycle packaging wherever possible.

I use some rather innovative (!) boxes for packing my smaller pieces of glass. Takeaway / microwave lidded boxes which are incredibly useful as they are air-tight so great for my storage of finished pieces and see-through so I can tell what is inside.
They also, with the addition of a small amount of bubblewrap, provide a very good protective cocoon for the glass in the post.
And an added advantage is that you can reuse the box once you have removed the glass !

Larger pieces which don't fit into my boxes are sent in see-through popper envelopes and are very well padded with bubble, cardboard and bouncy tape.

I always include a suction hook with each piece. These are as strong as I can find but it is a good idea to reseal to the glass every week or so by pressing firmly in the centre. Heavier pieces are safer hung from a permanently located hook. My glass pieces are as strong as I can make them and I do give consideration always to strength when putting them together but they are made of glass and prefer not to be dropped onto a hard floor.

Most of my packages do not go through the letter box as it is impossible to get them flat enough while protecting with enough padding. If your package has not arrived a couple of days after posting please check to see if it has been left in a secure place somewhere or check with your postie. The only packages I send by large letter post in PIP boxes to go through the letter box are pieces of jewellery and small fused pieces. I do not consider the depth of the boxes, maximum 2.5cm, adequate for the padding needed to post any other pieces of my glass safely.

I post lower priced individual items standard first class but more expensive items and orders for more than one piece may need to be sent signed for first class to allow cover from Royal Mail in the unlikely event of a problem. The system should charge you the correct postage to allow for that. If it charges you too little then my mistake, my loss. If too much then I will refund you the excess.

OVERSEAS ORDERS

Yes please. I love to send my glass to a new home and will happily post anywhere that someone wants it. I do however tend to only set up overseas shipping rates when requested so if you try to order and at checkout it will not allow shipping to the country you need please contact me, let me know what it is you are trying to order and I will quickly flick a magic switch to set the correct price and allow the overseas postage to go through.

Postage Refund

I have attempted to set up my postal costs so they calculate an accurate total price even if you order more than one piece. If I find it has overcharged you then I will refund you any postal overcharge.
