Large ash wood framed embroidery of St Brides Bay, Pembrokeshire 54x 44cm

£195.00

Original embroidery of St Brides Bay and cliffs cottage in Pembrokeshire. This is a large framed embroidered wall art measuring 54 x 44cm in total, including the high quality ash wood frame.

I made a watercolour wash for the background and then started to build up layers of machine embroidery and completed the piece with hand embroidery. For more information on the process and techniques I used to make this embroidery please see description below.

I offer free shipping on all my work and I will make sure it is packaged well due to the glass in the frame.

The fabric I use for these type of embroideries is a medium weight natural, calico cotton. I prepare the fabric by stretching it on a wood frame then wet the fabric with water. While the fabric is still damp, I paint a light water colour wash for the sky, sea, rocks and grass. It is just a wash of colours that represent each area, I add the detail with embroidery stitches once it has dried and I’m happy with the results.

On this embroidery I have used some free motion embroidery to build up the layers of the grass and the rocks. I then added hand embroidery to make the cottage and its surrounding gardens, along with the long grasses. I use a variety of embroidery stitches, including French knots, satin stitch and I used finger chain stitch which is perfect for the long seeded grasses. I think mixing the two types of embroidery gives the piece a lovely sense of depth.

I make my own frames so I can guarantee the quality is excellent. They have been made using ash wood which has been cut to size then it is all assembled at my home. I like to use a double mount as it leads the eye into the work. I have added a wire to the backing so it is secure and ready to be hung straight on your wall. The edges at the back have been taped up to avoid any dust getting in from the back.
