These lightweight and practical bags are designed with convenience in mind. Just slip the straps through one another to secure, and you can carry it by hand or wear it on your wrist. Perfect for everyday use or adding a touch of charm to a special occasion outfit.
Each bag measures approximately 18cm in height, with a 10cm by 11cm base, and the strap drops 16cm from wrist to bag. The outer fabric is a muted green checked wool, paired with an arts and crafts-inspired cotton lawn lining. A layer of heavy cotton canvas is hidden between the fabrics to give the bag a sturdy shape.
This design dates back to 1941 and was originally created as a stylish way for women to carry their gas masks during wartime.

These bags are based on a design from 1941 and where originally developed as an attractive way for women to carry their gas mask with them at all times.
By the winter of 1939 around 40 million gas masks had been issued. Supplied in a cardboard case with a strap made from a length of string, although not compulsory, people were advised to carry them at all times.
Handbags with special compartments for a gas mask and fabric covered cardboard cases soon became available. And it wasn’t long before the fashion magazines started to run articles telling women how to make their own stylish containers. “Make your gas mask container to match dress, costume or coat” they proclaimed.
To care for your bag, I recommend spot cleaning only.
All of my bags are made from remnants left over from other projects. This ensures as little waste as possible leaves my workroom.

In the unlikely event that an item needs to be returned please contact me within 14 days and return item within 28 days of order date. Any items returned must be unused, in re-sellable condition and in their original packaging.
Buyers will be responsible for return postage costs and it is advised that items are returned using a tracked and insured service, as refunds can only be issued once the item has been received.
