This owl is entirely made by hand and is a unique piece.
Copper coloured wire has been twisted and formed into the outline of the owl. I have then used take thinner wire of varying colours, wrapping and weaving in and around the bottom part of the outline to form the ‘feathers’. Next, I have added some red seed beeds around the rest of the frame and added aluminium wings on each side. The owl is finished off with glass crystal eyes and a glass triangle bead for it’s beak.
The owl is sitting on a tree trunk, again made from firstly twisting brown coloured wire into the outline and then adding a thinner brown wire throughout to form the bark of the tree. A few bits of greenery on the tree trunk finish it off nicely.
In this instance, the background is foam covered by fabric to give a rustic feel. Each element of the picture is ‘stitched’ in place with wire.
The frame is grey acrylic with a glass front, measuring approx 22.5cm square. The aperture is approx 19cm square.
NOTE: the photographs have been taken without the glass front, in order to avoid glare.
Whilst I don’t/can’t re-create pieces exactly (wire won’t bend the same way twice anyway!) I will consider consider commissions for a similar piece to suit colour preferences – please send a message to enquire.
