I love making these bowls. A clear piece of glass is covered with three shades of blue and pale grey sifted powders which is marked in to with a scalpel. That sheet of glass is then placed on a ceramic ring on ceramic resting on props in the glass kiln. The kiln fires very slowly up to 680c and the glass becomes soft enough to slowly sag through the hole. It has to be watched very carefully while it drops and caught at exactly the right moment to create the bowl shape. it is in the kiln for 24hours all together. When it is cold the excess glass remaining on the ring is removed and that rough edge smoothed, the piece is then sandblasted and is ready to be boxed.
