Vintage hand holding a rose. Victorian hand brooch. This brooch is a replica of a Victorian mourning brooch in my collection. The original is carved from Jet and such pieces were made popular by Queen Victoria wearing black jet ‘ mourning’ jewellery after the death of her husband, Prince Albert.
The hand holding a rose is symbolic of unrequited love.
I have spent many years seeking out examples of original Victorian and Edwardian Jet jewellery and early plastics such as Vulcanite and Bakelite jewellery.
This piece is cast in fine English pewter and shows to beautiful effect the exquisite details on the lace cuff.

Brooches make fabulous Christmas presents……..If you know that someone likes jewellery, but you don’t know if they have pierced ears or you don’t want to guess a finger size, then a brooch really fits the bill. Sometimes people may have allergies and can not wear anything made of metal next to their skin, but a lovely brooch that can be worn on a jacket / sweater or a scarf is a lovely personal gift that solves that problem.

Made in my own workshop in Lincolnshire, finished and polished to a beautiful sheen by my own two hands.FOLLOW THIS LINK TO SEE A SHORT FILM OF ME AT WORK IN MY STUDIO:
