Handcrafted Silver Sycamore Seed Necklace

£68.00

A one-off, handmade solid silver and leather necklace made of a solid fine silver (99.9% pure silver) Sycamore seed hung from a short, thin (1mm) black leather cord with sterling silver screw fastening to create a simple and natural loose choker-style necklace.

The silver sycamore seed was hand-crafted from an original seed found in my local woods in Hampshire.  I made a mould of the original seed which I used to shape silver metal clay to create an exact replica of the original.  The resultant solid silver seed shows all the precise details of the original, and is one of a kind, as this is the only one I have made from this particular seed.  The front of the seed has been given an aged patina to highlight the seed markings whilst the reverse has been left as shiny polished silver.

Measurements:

  • Silver sycamore seed measures 4cm including sterling silver ring (3.5cm without) and is made from fine (99.9% pure silver)
  • 1mm thickness Leather cord measures 40cm in length including fastener.
  • Fastener is a silver screw fastening.
  • All other silver including fastenings are sterling silver (925)

This is a necklace that can be worn every day, and with the leather cord has a slightly more rustic/bo-ho look than a chain would give it.

The necklace will arrive wrapped in pale green tissue paper fastened with linen thread, and in a kraft pillow-box.  A little handwritten note explaining a bit about the piece is also included.  Additional gift wrap options are available, see below.

The package will be shipped in 1-3 days and sent by Royal Mail Tracked 24 which is included.

See below for more details and information.

This detailed silver sycamore seed was made handmade from an original picked up from Shawford Down in Hampshire.  The seed was used to create a mould, which was then filled with silver clay.  Once dried and then fired this solid fine silver replica of the original was left.  This is the only one I made from this particular seed.    The silver seed has been given an aged patina on the front to highlight the markings of the seed, and is hung from a short 1mm black leather cord which fastens with a screw fastening, and complements the silver seed perfectly.

Silver Clay is a medium that I love using to recreate things I find in nature that I find interesting, beautiful or unusual – including seeds, leaves, flowers and petals, as well as shells, fossils and twigs.  I make one-off or very small numbers of each thing to ensure that all my pieces are unique, and use a variety of techniques – depending on what it is I am trying to integrate into my design.  So sometimes, as here, I use moulds to create replicas of an original find, sometimes I make imprints, sometimes I re-create something by building from scratch, sometimes I use silver clay paste to layer paint onto an original leaf, and other times I am simply inspired by the textures that nature proudly displays.

This means that some of my pieces are very seasonal in terms when I am able to create them – this sycamore seed was found last Autumn, for example.

I WELCOME COMMISSIONS:  I love receiving special requests for something bespoke so if you like my style but can’t see what you’d like, or have a piece of sea-glass, shell or something of your own that you would love to be turned into a one-of-a-kind piece for you, a loved one or a special occasion – please do get in touch, I’d love to chat and see if I can help you to create that unique and meaningful ‘something’.  Examples of things I have been commissioned to make include: a Bramble blossom, coffee beans, a hazel catkin, specific herbs or leaves, and various shells with special significance.  Making this way also helps to reduce waste, which also has to be a good thing!  So please do get in touch if you’d like to find out more or to discuss a special make you have in mind, even if it’s just a seed of an idea.

Returns and Refunds

All of my pieces are handmade with a lot of love and I take great pride in everything I make, and in seeing a smile on your face! I am a strong believer in hand-made meaning quality and also that because each piece is individually made by hand there sometimes may be irregularities on the surface reflecting the organic nature of the materials I work with , which creates truly one of a kind pieces.

I also know that occasionally things might go awry, and if you find that you have a problem with your item please contact me straight away so we can discuss how best to resolve the situation.
