Handcrafted Recycled Fine Silver Heart-shaped Leaf and White Sea Glass Pendant Necklace

£70.00

A unique, one of a kid, dainty silver leaf and sea glass necklace made by hand using silver metal clay paste and a leaf from a Wild Garlic Mustard (also known as Jack O’ The Hedge) plant.  The heart-shaped leaves of the Wild Garlic Mustard are perfect for this little leaf pendant, which as created by painting multiple layers of silver clay paste onto the original leaf.  Once fired, a perfect, slightly smaller, fine silver replica of the original leaf is left.  I have highlighted the details of the veins in the leaf using Liver of Sulpher to oxidise the surface.  I have added a small piece of fine silver wire wrapped white sea-glass from Seaham to create this one of a kind necklace, which is one of a small batch of spring hedgerow leaves that I made in the spring.

Dimensions: Fine silver leaf measures approx. 2cm in length x 1.5cm at its widest point; Sea glass measures 1 x 0.5cm (approx.); Total length of sterling silver chain including clasp measures 45cm/18 inches (fastening is a bolt ring clasp).

The necklace will arrive wrapped in pale green tissue paper fastened with linen thread, and in a kraft pillow-box.  A little handwritten note explaining a bit about the piece is also included. Additional gift wrap options are available, see below.

POSTAGE INCLUDED: The package will be shipped in 1-3 days and sent by Royal Mail Tracked 24.

This gorgeous little heart shaped silver leaf and sea-glass necklace is truly one of a kind, made using silver clay paste to create a solid fine silver replica of the original leaf.

The process of leaf creation starts with finding and picking a suitable leaf – not too big, as I like delicate leaves.   I then layer paint the silver clay paste until it is thick enough to withstand the firing process.  As it is being fired all of the organic compounds in the clay burn away, as too does any of the leaf that is still stuck to the clay.  What is left after firing is solid fine (99.9% pure) silver.  I have then created some depth to this leaf texture using liver of sulphur to add a blackening effect to the leaf veins so they stand out more – added prior to polishing.

This particular leaf was gathered from a Wild Garlic Mustard plant (also known as Jack by the Hedge) growing in the Hedgerows near where I live in the South Downs in Hampshire.  The leaves of the Wild Garlic plant are naturally heart shaped and although very delicate, I thought they’d be perfect for the process of leaf making using silver clay paste.  The young leaves are also great in salads!

I have paired it with a white piece of sea glass (found by me in Seaham, Co Durham), representing the white flowers of the plant.  I’ve wrapped it in fine silver wire.  The leaf and sea glass are hung from a sterling silver chain.

COMMISSIONS:  You may also like to know that I love taking special requests and commissions – perhaps to celebrate a special birthday or event, or maybe just to turn a favourite ‘something’ you have collected into a piece of jewellery you can wear.   So if you’d like to talk about creating something truly unique and bespoke for you or someone in your life please do get in touch, I’d love to help. Previous commissions have included turning a customer’s own sea-glass into a necklace, handcrafting a Bramble flower for a 21st birthday, recreating a dangly Catkin for a favourite sister or some coffee bean earrings for a Barista.   It’s also worth knowing that commissions don’t necessarily cost more than items in the shop – it depends what you have in mind – so it’s always worth a no-strings chat.

Returns and Refunds

All of my pieces are handmade with a lot of love and I take great pride in everything I make, and in seeing a smile on your face! I am a strong believer in hand-made meaning quality and also that because each piece is individually made by hand there sometimes may be irregularities on the surface reflecting the organic nature of the materials I work with , which creates truly one of a kind pieces.

I also know that occasionally things might go awry, and if you find that you have a problem with your item please contact me straight away so we can discuss how best to resolve the situation.
