Born in Dundalk in 450 AD St Brigid was the founder of the first monastery in County Kildare, Ireland. Her father was a pagan chieftain of Leinster and her mother was a Christian. St Brigid is one of the Patron Saints of Ireland along with St Patrick and St Columcille.

St Brigid is one of Ireland’s strong women who stood up to her father (who wanted to marry her) in order to accomplish her desire to follow her faith.

The Story of the Cross – St Brigid was by the sick bed of a dying pagan chieftain, possibly her father, soothing him with stories about her faith and her unwavering trust in God. She began telling the story of Christ on the Cross, picking up rushes from the ground to make a cross. Before his death, the chieftain asked to be baptised.

It was traditional to make this cross to hung over the door to ward off evil, fire and hunger but as St Brigid’s story of her faith and kindness, it became associated with her and was given her name.

As our commitment towards net zero, this traditional Celtic pendant was made with recycled metal in a solar powered workshop. Our packaging has been made in the UK with recyclable materials.
