Decoupaged Natural Oyster Shell.

Every Orangatan shell sold, I donate £1 to the WWWF

This little guy is my new favourite! His face is charming! A decoupaged shell with hand painted detail. It is available in a bigger size. This shell measures 10cms in length. Beautiful jungle colours enhance these unique shells. The edge is handed in gold and the lamination is hilighted on the reverse. Stunning gift for any one loves jungle animals.

Using recycled natural oyster shells from Englands best beaches, handmade at home. I started decorating shells many years ago, but soon had far too many! So decided to sell them, they are a labour of love.  I really enjoy creating new and different ideas. I am constantly looking for new designs and decoration methods, paint, gilding, enamel and mixed mediums.

These shells make stunning gifts as each shell is unique as the decoration is different on every single shell. The oyster shell varies in so many ways, their shapes and bowls all have various characteristics, some are better for dark designs and some for lighter motifs. Length 10-13cm

Oyster shells are a by product of the food industry. They are also ground up and used in the poultry industry along with the horticultural sector. Obviously the shells need to be cleaned and prepped for sale, general they are scrubbed and left to soak in clean fresh water and then left to dry in the sun.

Most crafters buy them already prepared, so when they arrive, we can get crafting! I like to inspect them for damage and quirks! So the shape dictates which pattern will work. I paint all my shells with either white acrylic or pearlescent paint, sometimes I might use a cream or buff depending on the shell. Then I add the pattern and leave to dry. After several coats of varnish and several hours of drying, they are ready to ‘glam up!’ Gold paint or gilt depending on the effect I want. I often handpaint extra details in, grass, reeds, feathers etc. They are left to dry and hardened before being gift wrapped and sent to their new homes.

All my shells are gift wrapped with tissue and ribbon.
