Fairy Dart, Elf Stone, Elf Arrow, Elf Bolt…
A neolithic style flint arrowhead encased in a silver mount.
In 17th and 18th century Scotland it was widely believed that these arrowheads which were often turned up by the working of the land were evidence of fairies and their attempts to shoot and injure people and their livestock.
However, with the principle of like healing like, arrowheads were used magically in the healing of such injuries.
Anyone who found an elf arrow was supposedly immune from such hurt, so long as they kept the protective artefact with them at all times.
If the arrow was given away, the person parting with it was liable to be stolen away by the fairies.
And so the fairy darts were made into amulets and charms so they could be kept near.
