Hello all, circumstances unfortunately mean that I will not be able to reopen my shop at the British Craft House until the New Year. I wish all of my lovely customers and fellow makers and creatives at the BCH a wonderful Christmas, and a peaceful, happy New Year x
Lightning Bolt Silver Stud Earrings
£22.00
Fine Silver and Sterling Silver Superhero Lightning Bolt Stud Earrings
Channel your inner superhero or just unleash your own power in the most stylish way possible. A pair of matching lightning bolts (or thunderbolts?) to light up your ears and add a touch of KerPOW! to your day. These earrings are made by first creating a design on paper, then carving it in jewellers wax. I then use the wax prototype to cast each earring individually in fine silver for a matching but non-identical pair. A sterling silver ear post is then soldered to the earring.
As you can see, the earrings are more or less the same size, but the very slightly larger earring measures 1.9 cm L and 0.7 W.
Every piece of sterling silver and fine silver jewellery I sell is handmade, with all casting and finishing carried out by me. Because of this, there may be very minor differences between the item photographed and the one you receive. However, these will always be minimal and in-keeping with the nature of being handmade. Most silver items can be oxidised upon request, if you prefer an antiqued/blackened finish.
Please bear in mind that each piece of handmade jewellery will be unique and may have very minor differences to the one you see in the photograph.
Some General Information
I try to work ethically, and source my metals and gemstones with care. All the silver I work with is recycled. I’ve recently started using Argentium Silver alongside sterling silver, which is a new type of silver. It’s very beautiful, with particular properties: super-bright, very strong, hypoallergenic and dazzlingly shiny. It’s also far more tarnish resistance than standard silver. I think I’m a convert!
Taking Care of Your Jewellery
When you receive a piece of my jewellery, it will be very shiny – the last thing I do before sending it out is give it a final polish! As long as you care for it, it should stay looking beautiful for years to come. However, even precious metals such as silver and gold tarnish. Tarnish is like rust on an old car or a cut apple turning brown – it’s the effect of oxidation.
Tarnish tends to get worse if you save your jewellery for best – exposure to oxygen is enough for metal to tarnish, but wearing it helps to prevent a build up. If your jewellery becomes tarnished, you can purchase a silver/gold cleaning cloth to sort it out.
Otherwise, follow these steps to take care of any jewellery you own:
When you’re not wearing your jewellery, store it away from other pieces, in a cool, dry place
Remove rings for cooking, washing up and applying lotions
Spritz on perfume BEFORE putting on your jewellery
Pool chemicals, solvents and acetone are best avoided with jewellery
If in doubt, be cautious!
With any piece of jewellery, precious metal is strong, but it still needs some TLC!
Singles?
I know that some people like to switch up their jewellery or wear mismatched singles earrings. I’m happy to sell single earrings or mismatched pairs upon request. Just let me know which one/s you want – the price will be (unsurprisingly!) half the price of the pair.
Gift Wrapping at No Extra Cost
Jewellery is a treat – it should always be nice to receive and unwrap. Every piece is sent in Matter & Ghost tissue paper, ribbon and gift box.
It’s large letterbox size, so you don’t have to wait in.
Sending direct to a lucky person? I’m happy to add a personalised note – I’ll use my best handwriting and everything 🙂
