The hussif, or ‘housewife’ sewing kit, was an essential tool issued to servicemen during World War II. Inspired by these historic kits, this charming pouch offers a modern take on a timeless design.
Crafted from cotton fabric with a fun mushroom pattern, the pouch measures 11cm x 15cm and features two internal pockets to neatly store your essential sewing supplies. The fabric swatch stitched to the underside of the flap will house your needles and a few pins.
This kit comes pre-equipped with a multi-coloured thread plait, a small pair of scissors, and a quick unpick.
While originally designed for sewing accessories, these versatile pouches are perfect for storing other small items such as jewellery, makeup and other small items.

During World War II, British servicemen were issued a compact sewing kit known as a hussif, or ‘housewife.’ This compact and practical kit was indispensable for mending uniforms and equipment in the field, ensuring soldiers remained well-prepared.
The original hussif typically included essentials such as a thimble, two bundles of grey wool for darning socks, 50 yards of linen thread, needles, replacement buttons (brass for battle dress and standard ones for shirts), and a square of fabric for patching holes or tears.
This modern interpretation is thoughtfully designed with inspiration from these historical kits. Made from sturdy cotton fabric, the pouch measures 11cm x 15cm and features two internal pockets to keep your sewing essentials organized. Each pouch comes pre-stocked with a multi-coloured thread plait, a small pair of scissors, and a quick unpick, making it ready to use right out of the box.
