Golden Rose: Botanical Print Silk Twill Scarf Wrap

£85.00

Golden Rose: botanically printed and naturally dyed, silk twill scarf or wrap. This is a unique piece which can never be replicated, and has been made using real leaves from my garden and surrounding areas and beautiful soft pink from natural dyes. Silk twill has a slightly heavier weight and a very fine herringbone texture, and comes with hand rolled hems.

This scarf features gorgeous golden tones from walnut leaves, the fabulously intricate shapes from macleaya cordata or plume poppy leaves, zingy greens from physocarpus leaves, coppery dyers’ coreopsis flowers and bright golden yellows from dyers’ chamomile, along with sumac and whitebeam leaves.

Silk Twill

One of the great benefits of silk twill is that it has a wonderful drape and excellent durability for it’s weight. The very famous and prestigious Hermes of Paris silk scarves are mostly made out of the silk twill fabric.

My process:

I create pieces inspired by my local environment and love to play with combining colours.  I gather fresh leaves from my garden and the surrounding areas, lay them out on the silk fabric in a pleasing pattern, then roll it up into a bundle to steam for 90 minutes.

Naturally dyed fabrics will fade when exposed to strong sunlight so to keep the colours bright, it is best to store your scarf somewhere away from direct light.

The colours are also best preserved by using a natural soap for washing, certainly don’t use anything that involves chemical ‘brighteners’.

Hand wash or gentle machine wash, then iron whilst still damp for best results.
