These amazing dishes are an adventure to create. Clear flat sheet glass is covered with sifted glass powders, deep cobalt, pale grey and sparkling aventurine blue and marked with a design which opens out magically when fired to 680c. The piece is shaped by laying the glass on a ceramic ring and allowed to stretch through the hole, it has to be watched carefully until it reaches the desired height (this can take hours) and then the waste glass from the rim is removed and smoothed to reveal a fine glass vessel. There is jeopardy at each stage which makes the whole process so rewarding and a joy to complete
