Autumn Leaf Drift: a soft and lightweight fine merino wool and silk scarf in beautiful shades of amber, antique, hazelnut, gold and rust. Like freshly fallen leaves in a drift on a lake, the lightweight hand dyed silk holds leaf shapes at either end. There is an abundance of texture and sheen on both sides of this scarf using curly wensleydale sheep locks, viscose fibres and boucle wool yarn. Along one edge there is a soft ruffle of silk fabric. Adding silk and viscose to the scarf makes it easy to wear and soft against your skin.

Fabric Care: it is best to wash this scarf by hand if you can, or use the handwash setting on your machine with nothing else in it. The process of making felt involves warm water, soap and agitation. This is exactly what your washing machine does. There is a risk of further shrinkage if you agitate it further in hot soapy water. Using natural soap also helps it to keep its lustre and drape.
It can be spun to extract most of the water, or rolled in a towel and pressed (stand on it or ask the kids to jump up and down on it!) before hanging somewhere warm to dry completely. Finish off with a gentle steam iron to restore its shape and lustre.

I create pieces inspired by my local environment and love to play with combining colours. I begin by hand painting the silk fabric, then I lay a fine layer of merino wool over it followed by plant sourced viscose fibres which add a lovely sheen. In the process of felting, the wool fibres penetrate the silk fabric and hold it in place, so that it softly ruches and gathers as the wool fibres shrink and mesh together. The whole process takes a few hours to gently work the fibres together until they meld fully with the silk. It has a lovely drape and feels soft against the skin. I really enjoy making my pieces interesting from both sides or fully reversible.

International shipping is currently restricted to a few countries outside the UK but if you cannot see your location for shipping, please get in touch as I am happy to obtain a one off quote for your region.
Outside the UK, the buyer is responsible for any import taxes that come due.
