Come and create a colourful, unique wool and silk felted warm neck warmer, also known as a cowl, with Suffolk textile artist Marian May.
This workshop is suitable for beginners. Some exertion is required and moderate manual dexterity.
Delicious home-cooked gluten-free lunch provided as well as home made cakes and refreshments.
In this creative workshop, you will learn how to make a felted cylinder using a resist and incorporate colourful silks, yarns and fibres into your neck warmer. During this workshop you will: – Be introduced to the ancient art of felt making using soap and water (the way the Mongolians make their yurt covers, though without horses!) – Learn about the properties of fabrics and fibres that can be added to felt making – Play with different yarns and fibres to create a colourful design – Work the loose fibres into a solid and flexible and soft piece of wearable art Instructions will be given on how to wash and dry your piece. All materials for this workshop will be provided: all you need to bring is an apron and a plastic bag to take home your damp fabrics.
