Inspiration

I love being out and about and I take lots of photos.  I’ve become better at labelling and indexing these photos for future reference in the studio.  I am a painter.  I am inspired by nature and the great outdoors. I try and paint every day.  I’m not a poet, but sometimes words and phrases come to me while I’m working.  When I was working on my painting, ‘Ben Lomond’, I was looking through a number of photos and I took a wee bit of time out to write the poem, ‘An Ode To Everything.’

An Ode To Everything

If I had the talent to equal this view,

I’d write a sonnet that salutes this creation,

I’d paint a landscape full of mood and shade,

Each on perfectly flawed in translation.

We met here in a union of love and adventure,

We mapped out a way, through the same constellation,

Honoured and humbled, in awe of everything,

Our mountains, shores and challenges were nourishing.

Hurray! For each day we have spent together,

There’s nothing settling about settling down,

And we are grateful for everything,

If we had a choice, we’d do it all over again.

This wee poem was read out at my wedding. We got married on the shores of Loch Lomond under the shadow of the mighty Ben.

I do hope you’ve enjoyed this small insight into an aspect of my creative process.  I wish you all happiness and peace.

Until the next time…..be lucky!
