My name is Amy and I love to sew. I have sewn in some shape or form for most of my life. I did lots of cross stitch when I was younger and also made cushion covers, pencil cases, needle cases and pin cushions. Basically anything where I could use a needle and thread and beautiful fabrics. About 14 years ago, I discovered dressmaking and have been hooked ever since. My ultimate aim is to have a completely handmade wardrobe and I’d estimate I’m probably about 60% there! I blog about my dressmaking at http://www.dressbyamy.co.uk
The only thing I dislike about dressmaking is the amount of fabric that is left over after cutting out a project. If you make your own clothes, you will know what I mean! Lots of randomly shaped pieces hanging around your sewing room, too small for another dressmaking project but too lovely to throw in the bin. That’s where my bags come in – for every dress or garment that I make, I now try to make at least one handbag, clutch bag, purse or wallet from the fabric scraps. Depending on how much fabric I have left over, I can sometimes make a mini collection.
In addition to those fabric scraps, I am often given pieces of fabric which are sometimes too small for dressmaking or they might not be suitable for clothes, so instead of wasting them, I also use these for bag making. I can’t stand to waste lovely fabrics and get so much enjoyment from turning them into something beautiful which can be used by others. In turn, contributing in my own small way to reduce the amount of textiles going to landfill each year.
Thank you again for taking the time to look at my shop. Each and every view, share and sale genuinely does mean so much to me.
