This is a 48 inch (1.2 metre), clinker, wooden dinghy.  This beautiful little boat is hand-made in the traditional way with Oak transoms and keel, steam bent Larch planks secured with copper nail and rove fastenings.  These boats are built particularly to order and the materials used can be varied, for example instead using Mahogany or Cedar for planking.  Moreover the finish of the boat can be varied; the traditional way is to varnish the interior and transoms and paint the outer planks, cream is a traditional colour but there can be many choices.  The options for the eventual use of the boat are also varied but will mostly include a glass topped coffee table, or a baby’s cot that can be either suspended on maybe davits or on rockers.  Another option is a lucky dog’s bed.  Personalised name boards can be attached.  The final configuration and materials used will drive the eventual cost of this gorgeous little boat that will undoubtedly become a family heirloom.  As a guide the costs of such a boat will vary between £800 – £1,000.  This would make a magnificent present for the birth of a child.  Delivery of the finished boat will need to be by negotiation.
