A unique and quirky little copper sculpture. Here three knobbly kneed birds are off on the adventure of a life-time in this Meccano wheeled boat. The boat is coloured using a patinating method where the piece is left in a chemical chamber containing ammonia and salt. The vapours from the ammonia interact with the salt on the copper to produce this rather remarkable coating.
The wheels on the base and the back are all meccano parts – brass and other basic metals – they’ve been attached using cold connections rather than with solder as they wouldn’t like the heat involved with that.
It’s approximately 20cm x 15cm x 8cm, and is made of copper with bronze, and brass used as highlights.
Definitely a piece to make you smile.
