Description
The turband features a wrapped knot and bandeau fashioned by hand from silk abaca – this very special natural fabric is a luxurious woven blend of silk and abaca fibre.
Derived from the abaca tree, a banana palm grown in the Philippines, silk abaca’s characteristic vibrant glossy colour comes from a blend of fine silk woven through the stiff banana palm fibres, so it’s the perfect fabric for making dressy dramatic turbans as well as her easier to wear younger sister, the turband.
Using silk abaca fabric I have created a one size turband that generously fits an average size head – from 20-23″/50-58cm – crafted around a light and easy to wear comfortable headband. When not being worn (unextended) the turband measures approximately 7.5″/19cm high x 6″/15cm wide overall x 3’/7cm across the arms of the turband, and also features an easy to wear internal metal headband for stability.
The headband is available in a range of colours and finishes, just from my British Craft House shop mhw_millinery, and looks gorgeous too with vintage appliques!
Wear and Care Guidelines
Dress to impress – when you receive your headband you will notice my logo tag is sewn into the inside of one of the “arms” of the headband. To maximise the turban effect of your headband, the logo tag “arm” should be positioned on the right when you wear your turband.
How to care for your turband – due to the silk content this luxury fabric is not washable, so please don’t use hair styling products in close proximity as they may stain the fabric. Remember too that the turband isn’t waterproof, so should be protected or removed if being worn in damp or wet conditions.
Please enjoy your turband!
