My ‘Purple Paradise’ leaded stained glass garden stake bring a splash of colour to your garden whatever the weather or season; it features 7 pieces of stained glass in 2 glorious shades; one in violet and the other in purple. These colours look stunning when the light filters through them.

These stakes are the perfect piece of art to plant in your garden, or if space is limited; in a pot.

These garden stakes make fantastic works of art that are fully weatherproof; they are cemented (so no water can get between the glass and lead) and feature marine grade stainless steel legs so they are ready to be ‘planted’ directly into the ground.

If like me, you’re not particularly green fingered, or dread the dull and dreary scenes of winter, why not invest in your very own piece of garden art that will look fantastic all year round!

I’m happy to discuss other colour options with you if you’re not a fan of purple – just use the enquiry feature.

The glass and lead area is approximately 8cm wide x 22cm high, plus 18cm legs (taking the total height of the piece to around 40cm).

My ‘Purple Paradise’ stakes are my own unique design, featuring 2 complementary shades; one purple and the other a vibrant violet. Each strip of glass is measured and cut by hand, with any sharp edges smoothed off.

Leaded pieces are built up in stages, starting with a frame. I use a deeper channel of lead came (came is the term for a strip/length of lead) on the sides of each stake, so that marine grade stainless steel rods can be secured inside the length of the stake. These provide additional stability and neat built-in legs, so you don’t need to worry about your garden art blowing over in strong gusts or rusting in damp conditions.

Each piece of glass is slotted into the frame, with another piece of lead inserted along the top. Whilst the piece is being built up, I use traditional horseshoe (farrier) nails to hold everything in place before each joint is carefully soldered.

The final stages ensure that water can’t creep in the gaps between the glass and lead. This waterproofing is achieved by cementing the piece; specialist leadlight cement is brushed into all of the gaps ensuring none remain. Cementing also increases the strength of a piece. The piece is polished at this stage to pick up some of the darker colouring of the cement.  Excess cement is unpicked after an initial drying period (usually 1 or 2 days), giving a crisp line that runs along the each edge of the lead came. I always allow at least 5 days for cemented pieces to fully set and harden before a final polish and then being carefully packaged for posting.

Each stake measures approximately 8cm wide x 22cm high (plus 18cm legs).

Glass Characteristics;

No two pieces are ever exactly alike as every sheet of glass has its own unique characteristic when it is produced; be that in it’s wispy lines, bubbles and other textures. As such please be aware that any piece you order from me will always have slight variation from the example photographs. Before sending out your order I will send you picture(s) of your piece to ensure you are entirely happy with it. Please bear in mind that glass colour changes greatly depending how much light, along with the quality of that light, shining through it – every piece can look very different as the light changes throughout the day. I always try to ensure that my photographs capture a true likeness of the glass colour.
