Double Wisp Spiralis Sculpure – in light wood.

I have always loved watching flames in fires and am lucky enough to see this every time I light my forge. The flames have inspired me to make a series of sculptures, all of which form my “Spiralis” range. They have either 2 or 3 pieces of metal – I call them “wisps”.  According to folklore a wisp is an atmospheric ghost light seen by travellers at night. I have recently discovered that the Latin for Will o’ Wisp is ignis fatuus which means “giddy flame”, the sculptures are aptly named “Double Wisp and Triple Wisp”

Once I have completed the metal work I set it into a piece of wood that I think suits the sculpture. The wood is all sourced from a local tree surgeon, some of the wood we are able to name other pieces we are not sure about!

These pieces would grace both contemporary and traditional homes, the heights range from 46cm to 53cm. Made by Chris The Smith.
