Description
This A4 sized print is taken from a pair of original watercolour and ink illustrations created for my Butterflies of Britain series.
I have placed the upper wing and underwing views next to eachother and titled and initialled underneath the image in pencil. It is signed in pencil on the back.
The Orange-tip (Anthocharis Cardamines) is a medium sized, distinctive butterfly commonly seen in gardens, meadows and hedgerows all across the U.K. Only the males have the brilliant orange tip to their wings, but both sexes have the mottled black underwing. Female Orange-tips can look similar to Small White butterflies but can be differentiated as they tend to be greener and have the mottled underwing. The caterpillars feed on the flowers and seedpods of tall Crucifers such as Lady’s Smock and Garlic Mustard. The adults will feed on these plants also as well as Hedge Mustard, Charlock and Honesty.
This is a digital print on sturdy 189gsm matte paper printed with Epson Ultrachrome HD inks. The print is unmounted and will be packaged with an acid-free board backing in a compostable cello bag.
