Description
To make this hair clip/barrette, I cut, shaped and hand-textured some sterling silver and added some lengths of hand woven silver top and bottom.
I then made three bezel settings from fine and sterling silver and bezel set the central square, faceted amethyst (in a lovely rich hue of purple) on an angle, to form a diamond shape and then bezel set two smaller round, faceted amethysts either side. These two smaller amethysts are in a delicate shade of lavender.
The metal clip on the back is a high quality, strong French made barrette (nickel and lead free) and this is rivetted (not glued) onto the sterling silver front plate, ensuring it is extremely secure.
The clip on the back is 6cm/2.4 inches (approx) in length and the silver frontplate is approximately 7cm/2.7 inches long and approximately 1.6cm/0.6 inches wide. The silver front plate gently curves following the shape of the clip.

All about Hallmarking
In the UK it is illegal to sell or describe any item as silver if it is not hallmarked by one of the UK Assay Offices. Silver items are only exempt from hallmarking if they weigh under 7.8g. A hallmark is made up of three compulsory symbols:-
1. The Sponsor’s or Maker’s Mark.
2. Metal and fineness (purity) Mark – 925 for sterling silver and 999 for fine silver.
3. Assay Office Mark – mine have the castle, which is the mark for the Edinburgh Assay Office.
