Description
Needlefelted wool sculpture of a Lilac Breasted Roller, a beautiful colourful bird indigenous to Sub-Saharan Africa. The piece is handmade, needle felted mainly of sheep’s wool with plastic eyes and wrapped wire legs, presented on a wooden base.
The Roller is about 15 cm tall and is presented perched on a branch, with the whole piece 25cm tall in total.
Needlefelting is the process of felting wool using a special barbed needle. As the needle is plunged into the wool, the barbs catch the wool fibres, pulling them into the centre of the piece, and matting or felting the fibres. This technique can be used to create 3D sculptures and can also be used to create 2D wool ‘paintings’.
