Description
The lower layer of cells (the epidermis) was stripped from a lily leaf (with a steady hand!) and stained with Toluidine Blue. By viewing the stained epidermis using a polarised light microscope, the different cells present can be seen, including the guard cells which surround the stomata (mouth like structures which allow gaseous diffusion across the normally impermeable epidermis). The guard cells stain a slightly different colour due to the difference in the chemical structure of the cell walls.
These elegant and useful mirrors measure 63mm in diameter and are 8mm thick. They open to reveal a plain mirror on each side and are ideal to keep in your bag to ensure you always look your best! The reverse of the mirror features an intricate engraved design.
The image has been printed using the dye sublimation process, meaning that the image actually penetrates the surface, resulting in a high gloss scratch resistant finish. They are supplied in a small gift box including a description of the image, making them ideal as a gift.
