Fused Glass Cabochons and Bezel setting – (Suitable for beginners)

This is an exciting new 2 day course where you will get to make your own fused glass cabochon and then set it into a bezel to make a beautiful ring or pendant.

Day 1 – Will we make some basic fused glass cabochons using a variety of dichroic glass and other coloured glass before firing in a microwave kiln. Then in the afternoon while the glass is cooling we will make a practice ring using copper so that you can try out all the necessary jewellery making techniques such as measuring a ring to size, filing, cutting and soldering etc. You will get the chance to make several glass cabochons so you can choose your favourite for day 2.

Day 2 – The second day will be spent making a piece of sterling silver jewellery using your chosen glass cabochon made on day 1. You make a ring, pendant or halo pendant from silver and then create the bezel from scratch for your chosen dichroic glass cabochon.

Materials included are- A selection of dichroic glass, coloured and clear glass and frit etc for creating fused glass cabochons. All silver needed to create a sterling silver ring or pendant plus copper for the practice ring.

Please note – this course is not designed to give you an in-depth knowledge of glass fusing. We will cover the basics to get you started fusing small amounts of glass in a microwave kiln. The learning outcome for the session is to create a glass cabochon and set it into a hand made bezel with the result being an entirely hand made item of jewellery.

The Cheshire School of Jewellery is a small and friendly workshop situated in the heart of the Cheshire countryside just outside of Nantwich. This is an in-person course (not on-line) so please check the location before booking.
