Hygge Blue Handmade Stoneware Mug

£24.00

Hygge Blue Mug

A beautifully made handmade ceramic mug made by me on my potters wheel.

‘Hygge (pronounced hue-gah) is a Danish word that is a feeling or mood that comes taking genuine pleasure in making ordinary, every day moments more meaningful, beautiful or special. Whether it’s making coffee a verb by creating a ritual of making it then lingering over a cup to a cosy evening in with friends to the simple act of lighting a candle with every meal. Hygge is being aware of a good moment whether it’s simple or special.

Some refer to hygge as an “art of creating intimacy” (either with yourself, friends and your home). While there’s no one English word to describe hygge, several can be used interchangeably to describe the idea of hygge such as cosiness, charm, happiness, security, familiarity, comfort, reassurance, kinship, and simpilness.’

It’s made from stoneware clay making it strong and durable. A lovely piece of studio pottery for you to enjoy using.

It measures approximately 9.5 cm tall and  8.5 cm across the rim.

A gorgeous handmade mug with the word Hygge and a red heart on it.

I first threw the body of the mug from a good stoneware clay.  When if had firmed to leather hard I turned the base and then added the handle which I’d pulled previously. The decoration was then attached to the mug. The mug was then left to dry slowly to ensure that the handle join is strong.

Once it was bone dry I fired it in the kiln to 1000C.  I then glazed the mug with this gorgeous blue. The detail of the wording and heart was painted in with glaze.  It was then popped back into the kiln and fired to 1240C; that’s hot.

It measures approximately 9.5 cm tall and 9.5 cm across the rim.

I sign all my pieces with my initials, REJM.   To me each one deserves to be acknowledged as individual.

The handmade nature of studio pottery, the unpredictability of the glaze reactions in the kiln makes all pieces unique.
