Description
I love working from my garden studio near the beach. This dish has a true coastal vibe.
I threw this bowl on my potter’s wheel then trimmed the foot. I carved the waves around the rim and painted an intense cobalt blue around the body for the deep waves. The crests of the waves are painted in liquid porcelain (slip) This piece was then high fired (bisque) and afterwards I dipped the dish in a transparent glaze. The dish went back into the kiln to be re-fired at 1280 degrees C, over another 3 days.
Inspiration
I watch the ocean in its various forms as I walk daily along my local beach. Sometimes it’s as calm as a mill-pond, but I’m more fascinated when it’s rough and rolling.
The majority of my work reflects my joy of diving and the deep blue. My pottery captures the mysteries of the sea, I’ve always had a Saltwater Spirit and love living by the coast. I want my art to invite you to touch and explore the forms.
Seize that sense of other-worldliness, a watery feel of sunken treasure.
Stoneware is extremely resilient.
