Get to Know Your Sewing Machine Online Course

£60.00

Do you have a new sewing machine that you want to learn how to use? Or is your machine sitting in the back of a cupboard gathering dust? Then join me on Zoom for this online ‘Get to know your sewing machine’ class!
This course gives individual tuition and is designed to teach you about your sewing machine and what it can do. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, whether your machine is new or inherited, you will learn how to use it with confidence. Although the principles of a sewing machine are the same, every sewing machine is slightly different. By learning on your machine, you will gain confidence on the machine that matters! I will take you through the basics including:
– Learn how to set up your machine
– Know the functions of the machine
– The importance of tension control
– Threading the machine
– Winding a bobbin and inserting it
– Changing a needle and different needle types
– The importance of foot pedal control
– Sewing seams – using the seam allowance guide
– Tips and tricks for sewing straight lines, curves and corners
– Finishing seams
– The importance of reverse stitching
– Different stitch types
This online course will be tailored to your sewing machine; I will need details of your machine in advance of your course, so I have time to prepare my resources. I will give lots of sewing advice and tips for sewing successfully. The course includes demonstrations using pre-recorded films and plenty of practise time on your machine. To embed what you have learnt, you will take away a small ‘homework’ task too! Don’t worry it doesn’t need to be handed in!

This course is a perfect foundation and will allow you to embark on more ambitious projects in dressmaking, quilting and other crafts.

What do I need to know?

– The Zoom meeting will be one to one. I will contact you to arrange a mutually convenient time and will send you an invite to join. Please ensure your contact details are accurate.

– Once your course date has been confirmed, I will post you a ‘goodie’ pack of learning resources (included in price)

– In advance of your course, it is your responsibility to ensure your machine is in good working order and is set up ready.

– Please ensure you can access Zoom comfortably and near to your sewing machine.

– You will need sewing thread, sharp scissors, a few pins, an empty bobbin and the sewing machine instruction manual. This is very important to tackle any issues that arise and allow you to make progress.

-All materials will be provided in advance of the day.

-The duration of this course will be approximately three to three and a half hours depending on your pace.

– The homework task is a bit of fun and is set to embed your learning. If you wish, you can share the results on social media using #ohsewproud #ohsewcreativeuk

This would make a lovely gift. If this is a gift for someone, the learning pack can be sent direct to the person along with a gift voucher for the course. Or if you need to wrap something up for the person, I can send pack direct to you. Please advise your requirements at checkout.
