Description
A gorgeous handmade mug with a bee stamped into a heart.
I first threw the body of the mug from a good stoneware clay. When if had firmed to leather hard I turned the base and then added the handle which I’d pulled previously. The bee was then attached to the mug. The mug was then left to dry slowly to ensure that the handle join is strong.
Once it was bone dry I fired it in the kiln to 1000C. I then glazed the mug with this gorgeous Spring green on the outside and moody clouds on the inside spilling onto the outside. The detail of the bee was painted in with glaze. The rim I glazed with an olive glaze for added interest. It was then popped back into the kiln and fired to 1240C; that’s hot.
I sign all my pieces with my initials, REJM. To me each one deserves to be acknowledged as individual.
The handmade nature of studio pottery, the unpredictability of the glaze reactions in the kiln makes all pieces unique.
I would hate my ceramics to get broken in transit so I make sure that all my parcels are very well packaged. I use a combination or recycled materials and reused packaging.
