I am so pleased to have recently discovered this gorgeous collection of 100% pure merino wool felt, it has a beautiful texture and jewel colours. Your felt flower will be made from 100% double-sided merino wool. Due to the nature of the fabric, the construction of the flower and the buntal base, the headpiece is unsuitable for washing.
After making up your flower and finishing your headpiece, please store your hat safely away when not in use – the kit box itself is an excellent size to keep your headpiece is secure. If you feel your flower decoration needs freshening up, making sure you avoid burning your fingers in the steam, boil your kettle and hold your headpiece by the rim, in the steam flow about 6 – 8″/16-20 cm away from the kettle, for 30 seconds. When dry, brush lightly with a clean suede brush if required.
The design concept for the Roses are Red kit
You may be interested to know a little about the creation of the kit – in the Spring of 2021, I was commissioned by the UK Crafts Council to design and deliver a millinery masterclass to the patrons of The Saint Georges Society of New York. The SGSNY is the oldest charity in the USA and my millinery class formed part of their 250th-year anniversary celebrations. Inspired by one of the Society’s symbols, the red rose of Lancashire and England, the beginner’s millinery kit and online course that I created for SGSNY has been extremely popular.
There are many alternative bespoke colour options available too, and whilst this listing features the colours of the emblems of the four UK nations, if you would like to commission a kit in a different colourway, please do get in touch.
