Description
This portrait of a llama has been hand needlefelted onto turquoise felt using a variety of sheep wools. The llama has a wonderfully uncontrollable fringe which has wafted all over its face, and beautifully long eyelashes framing deep brown eyes.
Needlefelting is the process of felting wool using a special barbed needle. As the needle is plunged into the wool, the barbs catch the wool fibres, pulling them into the centre of the piece, and matting or felting the fibres. This technique can be used to create 3D sculptures and can also be used to create 2D wool ‘paintings’.
This piece has been stretched over a wooden frame 20cm x 20 cm so it could be displayed as is. Alternatively you could have the portrait mounted in a box frame, as preferred.
