Description
This long-legged bird is strolling though the wheat and purple flowers. Mounted on a white wooden base he’s prone to a little wobble with movement.
The sculpture is made with anodised aluminium and copper wire. The aluminium is dyed and printed with patterns made with my homemade stamps, then cut into shape.
The copper wire is bent into shape and coated in platinol to give a lovely black contrast against the aluminium. The wires are secured into a softwood base which has been white washed and waxed.
I often use leaves and feathers and also carve my own stamps to print on the aluminium before its dyed.
I love movement and on this particular sculpture the bird, flowers and wheat have a little wobble when moved or handled.
All Ruby and Jack jewellery and sculpture is hand made by me from my workshop in Wiltshire. I make each item individually therefore there may be a slight variation in colour, print and size.
The sculpture measures 295 mm height, 140 mm width, 40 mm depth.
Some information about anodised aluminium
Anosiding uses acid to create a corrosive and wear resistant layer on top of the metal. The anodic layer is left unsealed allowing the material to be dyed. The dyeing and patterning are my favourite part of the process as there are endless possibilities for colour, pattern, print and texture. This makes anodised aluminum a hard wearing and lightweight material for jewellery making and sculpture.
