Description
The original ancient Greek figures of this type are known as Tau-, Psi- or Phi figurines, as their shapes resemble the Greek letters tau (τ), psi (ψ) and phi (Φ). They original figures were small in size (about 10cm high), made of terracotta and were found in tombs, shrines and settlement areas.
Their ancient function and purpose is unknown, although they may have been used as children’s toys, votive figurines or grave offerings. The original figures are on display in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, on 5th Avenue in New York.
I am fascinated by Ancient art and culture and enjoyed making this reproduction of Mycenaean figures. I have paid great attention to modelling the details of the original historical artefact.
