Up-cycled Felt vase

A bit more about me.

I was brought up in a creative house. My mother was a textile designer and free embroiderer. She lectured in an Art College and taught me to look and appreciate all the things around me. There was an old trunk at home full of “ideas”: Fabric, threads, wool, trimmings and we would rummage and make something wonderful!

I did an Art foundation year and then a fashion/textiles degree. I have always worked in textile design in some way.

The Fabric Vase Company began when we moved to Ely. A simple idea for a reversible cover to pop over a jam jar, glass or a cutdown plastic bottle. Then add flowers and water.

I love making the felt vases, from finding a lovely old wool blanket, working on top with natural fleece tops and shredding silk scarves from a charity shop, free machining and finally adding a button – either a piece sea-glass, pottery or slate from a beach walk. All up-cycled and totally unique.

I am thrilled to have been part of The British Craft House from the beginning and look forward to an exciting year ahead.

Need a teenager in the house again!

  2. I really like the image of the old trunk at your childhood home full of ‘ideas’. I’m sure a lot of visitors to this site have a ‘stash’ drawer full of haberdashery, yarn and fabric.
Interesting too, to hear about the materials and techniques you use to make your lovely vases.
